المصدر - Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations (Rasd Coalition) strongly condemns the unconstitutional death sentence issued yesterday by Houthis tribunal against journalist Yahya Andulraqeeb Al-Jubaihi, 63 years, who was abducted since last September by Houthis militia.
Rasd Coalition considers this verdict by state security court as invalid and issued by illegitimate authority, and unconstitutional court, in a trial that lacks minimum standards of fair trial, where the lawyer was not allowed to defend the suspect. The sentence is quasi extralegal killing, where Houthis controlled tribunal was manipulated to issue and justify illegal and unconstitutional verdicts against their opponents.
The sentence was issued on basis of invalid malicious charges due to his profession, and is aiming to suppress and restrict freedom of opinion and expression, targeting journalists with tailored charges that lead to death penalty, when opposing the militia or disclosing violations at areas under their control.
Al-Jubaihi is one of the senior Yemeni journalist and university professor, who taught many Yemeni journalists.
Rasd Coalition denounce this unconstitutional and illegitimate trial of Al-Jubaihi and other 36 detainees whose are subjected to farce trial following heinous torture practices against them.
Houthis-Saleh militia are manipulating judicial system to organize farce trial within unconstitutional and illegal context to justify oppression and killing of journalists, activists, and human rights defenders, for their role in revealing Houthis-Saleh crimes and violations.
Yemeni Coalition calls the international community to condemn criminal acts of Houthis militia, including intimidating of civilians, torture of detainees to death, and establishment of informal prisons and detention centers, unconstitutional farce trials that breach the constitution and national and international law and conventions. Also calls the international community to put an end to the oppression and violence against journalists and human rights defenders by Houthis militia.
Yemeni Coalition has warned that such sentences against Al-Jubaihi and his colleagues, are crimes against humanity that have no status of limitation and the perpetrators will be prosecuted before national and international tribunals.
