Launch of the Free MRV Network Platform for Capacity Building in Carbon Emission Measurement and Management
Under the patronage of the Scientific Chair for Carbon Footprint and Sustainability – ALECSO, League of Arab States, and the Union of Climate Associations and NGOs
In a pioneering step to support the global transition toward carbon neutrality, the Institute of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint proudly announces the official launch of the MRV Network on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
This free international platform aims to enhance knowledge and training in the fields of Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, in line with the latest international standards.
The platform will feature weekly free training sessions every Saturday, delivered by international experts in climate and sustainability from around the world. The training will align with the requirements of the Paris Agreement, IFRS S2, EU CSRD, and the guidance of the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 standards.
During the launch event, the Institute will also announce the first international professional certification in GHG MRV:
“Certified GHG MRV Specialist”,
accredited by CPD UK, making it a globally recognized professional qualification.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mostafa El-Sherbiny, President of the Institute of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint, stated that the launch of the MRV Network represents “a major milestone in building climate capacities across the Arab region and Africa.”
He emphasized that the platform will help train tens of thousands of professionals to implement MRV systems according to UN and EU standards, ensuring that “every factory will have a certified carbon footprint specialist.”
This initiative marks a groundbreaking step by the Institute toward empowering industries and governments to manage and verify their emissions effectively.
Dr. El-Sherbiny also announced that the MRV Network will organize a special international event during the COP30 Climate Conference in Brazil, to present the outcomes of its activities and its global partnerships in carbon management and climate capacity building.
He concluded by stressing that the Certified MRV Specialist qualification is “a key professional tool enabling experts, government bodies, and companies to prepare accurate and verifiable GHG inventories.”
It also opens the path for international accreditation in carbon reporting and participation in both voluntary and compliance carbon markets.
Dr. El-Sherbiny highlighted the significant economic importance of launching the MRV Network for Egypt, noting that it represents a strategic step toward aligning national industries with the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
This alignment will help Egyptian export sectors maintain their position in the European market and enhance their competitiveness.
He added that Egypt possesses a unique comparative advantage in energy and carbon emissions relative to many regional competitors, positioning it strongly to expand low-carbon exports and attract new green investments as part of the transition toward a sustainable green economy.
