In a new milestone that reflects Egypt’s leadership in sustainability and climate action at both the regional and globa levels, the Institute of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint LLC, headed by Ambassador Dr. Mostafa El-Sharbeni, one of the world’s foremost climate and sustainability experts, has announced its achievement of four prestigious international ISO certifications, further reinforcing international and regional confidence in the Institute’s competence and quality of services:

ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management

ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management

ISO 21001:2018 for Educational Organizations Management Systems

ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety

This remarkable accomplishment comes at a pivotal moment, as Egyptian and Arab companies face unprecedented challenges posed by the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), introduced as a major tool to curb carbon leakage and ensure fair competition. Under CBAM, all exporters to EU markets must accurately disclose the carbon footprint of their products. Non-compliant companies risk significant financial burdens and additional carbon tariffs that could undermine their competitiveness.

The Institute’s Mission and Role in Addressing CBAM

Through its international accreditations, the Institute of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint has solidified its position as a leading regional and international knowledge hub, capable of supporting companies and governments by:

Preparing carbon footprint reports and verifying emissions in line with GHG Protocol and ISO 14064 standards.

Assisting Egyptian and Arab exporters in complying with CBAM requirements and safeguarding their exports from additional costs.

Providing climate and environmental consultancy aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

Delivering specialized training programs that grant professional certifications and international memberships, including fellowships from the College of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint (UK).

Statement by Ambassador Dr. Mostafa El-Sharbeni

Commenting on the achievement, Ambassador Dr. Mostafa El-Sharbeni stated:

“Securing these international certifications represents another important step in strengthening the trust of our partners and the business community in the quality of our services. It underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting the transition toward a sustainable economy in line with European and international regulations and the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030. Today, we place our internationally accredited expertise and capabilities at the service of Egypt and the Arab world to confront climate and economic challenges—foremost among them the European Union’s CBAM.”

A Global Presence: Pivotal Role at the UN Water Conference 2026

The Institute’s influence extends far beyond international accreditations. Ambassador Dr. Mostafa El-Sharbeni has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Team to the Presidency of the United Nations Water Conference 2026, which will be hosted in UAE with the participation of all UN member states.

This landmark conference will tackle global water challenges through six key interactive dialogues:

Water for People

Water for Prosperity

Water for Planet

Water for Cooperation

Water for Multilateral Processes

Water for Investments

Through his role, Ambassador Dr. El-Sharbeni and the Institute will contribute to shaping the conceptual papers for the conference, positioning the Institute as one of the very few Arab institutions directly engaged in designing global climate and water policies.

Linking Carbon and Water Footprints: An Integrated Vision

Experts at the Institute emphasize that carbon footprint management and CBAM compliance cannot be separated from water sustainability issues, given that many carbon-intensive industries are also highly water-intensive. Accordingly:

Water footprint management has become an integral complement to carbon footprint management.

Inefficient water use can exacerbate carbon emissions and heighten challenges for exporting companies.

Linking CBAM with the UN Water Conference opens the door for comprehensive solutions that integrate green economy practices with water resource protection.

A Strategic Vision for Egypt and the Region

Through its international recognition and its active participation in global sustainability dialogues, the Institute of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint positions Egypt as a regional hub for sustainability and the green transition. The Institute provides companies and governments with:

Scientific and practical tools for compliance with international regulations.

First-hand expertise in global carbon market mechanisms.

Support in attracting climate finance and green investments.

Training and capacity-building programs to bridge the sustainability skills gap across the Arab region.

A Dual Achievement: ISO Certifications and Global Policy Participation

By securing four prestigious ISO certifications and playing an active role in shaping the agenda of the UN Water Conference 2026, the Institute of Sustainability and Carbon Footprint, under the leadership of Ambassador Dr. Mostafa El-Sharbeni, has proven that it is far more than a training or consultancy entity. It is an international knowledge powerhouse capable of bridging global market requirements (such as CBAM) with the UN’s sustainable development agenda.

This achievement reflects a distinctive Egyptian and Arab model—a global benchmark in leading the carbon footprint revolution and driving the transition toward a fair, competitive, and green economy.
