H.E. the President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority discusses means of cooperation with the President of the FATF

H.E. the President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, Mr. Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, held a virtual meeting via a video conference today, Monday 5/10/2020, with the President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), Dr. Marcus Pleyer.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. the President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority welcomed the President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and a number of issues of common interest were discussed. H.E. the President of Nazaha stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, is keen for the G20 to adopt pioneering initiatives in combatting corruption.

Most notably, the inauguration of the first G20 Anti-Corruption Ministerial Meeting, allowing the ministers of the G20 countries to discuss the critical challenges related to corruption; reaching consensus on a Ministerial Communique, which will serve as a roadmap for the world to overcome these challenges, including the ones related to the lack of cooperation amongst anti-corruption authorities, as well as to alleviate safe havens to the corrupt, ensurebeneficial ownership transparency, and mitigate corruption risks related to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and organized crime.

From his part, the President of FATF thanked the Kingdom on setting up this meeting, He added that illicit money is one of the gateways to corruption, and that FATF supports the Kingdom's initiative to strengthen cooperation between anti-corruption authorities around the world, which would enhance promoting the optimum implementation of the FATF recommendations.

It is worth noting that this comes as part of the framework for the preparation of the first anti-corruption ministerial meeting in the G20, which will be held on October 22nd, 2020 under the Saudi G20 Presidency.. The meeting was also attended by the Assistant to the President for International Collaboration of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, Chair of the Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG), Dr. Nasser bin Ahmed Abaalkhail, and the Vice-Chairman of the Anti-Money Laundering Permanent Committee (AMLPC) in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Adel Al-Qulish.
